Great food seven days a week

Yes, you read correctly. You can visit Karsten’s seven days a week for a blissful meal. So even on a Monday or Tuesday you can have an excellent dinner out in Norg. Our menu is bursting with delicacies, which we always prepare fresh. This involves using local (seasonal) products as much as possible. Whether you want breakfast, lunch or dinner, at Karsten’s you can have it all. Our welcoming team is ready to put something delicious on the table every day.

By the way, don’t be fooled by the word Hotel on the facade. In fact, we are equally open to guests who “just” want to join us for a nice meal. Or for a cup of coffee or tea, of course. Not just for hotel guests, then, but for anyone who wants to grab a bite or a drink outside the door.

Plenty of variety: meat, fish and vegetarian

Our restaurant has an extensive menu with truly something for everyone. So you can easily create your own blissful three-course dinner. Do you like meat or are you a real fish lover? In either case, you have a wide choice at Karsten. Think appetizers with beef carpaccio, salmon or lightly spicy prawns. A main course with diamond cheese, chicken ice-cream satay or fried cod is bound to appeal equally well. Or try our changing fish dish, the “fish of the day.

Our menu also includes a variety of tasty options for vegetarians. From vegetarian soups and meal salads to a spinach strudel or forest mushroom risotto, for example. Indulge your taste buds with surprising combinations. Moreover, we are constantly thinking about new mouth-watering dishes to add to our menu. In this way, we continue to surprise our guests and offer variety.

Children are equally welcome at Karsten. We have a menu especially for our smallest guests. The classic toppers like poffertjes or fries with a snack are sure to do well with the kids. And an ice cream topping completes it all. Kids happy, you happy.

All our dishes are prepared with love and care. Among other things, we use a variety of local produce for this purpose. For example, our ice cream, dry sausage and eggs come from local suppliers. Fresh, sustainable and (above all) very tasty.

Eating ‘outside’ all year round at Restaurant Norg

At Grand Café Hotel Karsten, you can enjoy the outdoor feeling all year round. On the covered terrace in our large conservatory, outdoors always feels close at hand. In summer, we open all the side panels of the conservatory. This allows you to sit comfortably in the shade while still enjoying the outdoors. Even during a summer shower, you will be perfectly seated here.

In winter, our terrace is also a great place to be. Thanks to heaters, heat pads and tables with built-in table fires, it is always cozy here. A cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate completes the experience. Or a delectable meal, of course.

Our restaurant with covered terrace is equally well suited for drinks. Join your loved one or friends and grab our drink menu. Here you will find delicious appetizers that will make your get-together a tasty success. Think (vegetarian) mini-snacks, nachos, parmesan fries or a fantastic drinks platter with all sorts of goodies. Still hungry afterward? Staying for dinner is always an option….

Some birthdays or special events deserve to be celebrated a little more grandly. For example, when a beautiful crown anniversary has been achieved. Maybe grandpa or grandma turned 80 or your parents reached a beautiful wedding anniversary. Or you yourself may want to celebrate your birthday outside the door, simply because you can. Whatever the reason, at Karsten’s it’s bound to be a successful party.

Delicious food

A party or group outing is not complete without delicious food and drink. At Karsten, you have several options when it comes to catering. For example, choose elaborate drinks boards with a variety of delicious appetizers. From cheese and sausage, to nachos, bread with spreads or bitterballs: it’s all possible. Prefer to dine elaborately with the whole party? Then a multi-course dinner is a good choice. In consultation, we put together a meal that meets all your needs. A buffet of cold and hot dishes is also an option.

Great group activities

Dinner with a group becomes extra fun when you combine it with an activity. We offer various indoor or outdoor group activities. For example, choose a delicious dinner combined with a game. Think Ik hou van Holland or a pub quiz with questions about the region. Are you a true beer lover? Then be sure to opt for a beer tasting followed by a delicious meal.

For a little more action, the game Escape from Veenhuizen is highly recommended. After a sumptuous buffet in our restaurant, it’s time to head outside. The forests around Norg and Veenhuizen are the setting for a challenging ride. In this, you as an inmate have the task of staying out of the hands of the guards. Exciting!

In addition to great food and fun activities, our venue is also very suitable for business meetings. We have a beautiful, lockable room with all facilities for a successful meeting. With its homey atmosphere and cozy decor, guests quickly feel at ease here. Combined with a convenient location and great coffee, makes this the ideal meeting location.

It can do wonders to meet outside the regular office spot for a meeting or other meeting. A fresh, new environment often has a positive effect on inspiration and concentration. It is possible to completely tailor the layout of the room to the type of meeting. Various setups are possible here, such as in smaller groups, a U-shape or a square setup. In consultation, we choose a room arrangement that suits the purpose of the get-together.

A business meeting in our hotel-restaurant can be completed in a variety of ways. Depending on the desired length of time, we offer different meeting packages. In any case, each package includes unlimited coffee, tea and mineral water. There are also several extras, such as an extensive lunch buffet in our restaurant and a three-course surprise menu.

A meeting package with an overnight stay is equally possible at Karsten. Our four-star hotel features clean, comfortable rooms with excellent beds, free Wi-Fi and television. This package also includes a sumptuous breakfast buffet. In short, we have the space and all the facilities for a successful business meeting. Why eat out in Norg?

Norg is a cozy brink village in the Kop van Drenthe with a central location between Assen and Groningen. As a result, it is easily accessible from many directions. Moreover, the village is located in a beautiful environment with beautiful natural areas. So you can perfectly combine lunch or dinner with a fine outdoor activity.

There is much to see and do in Norg and the surrounding area. The beautiful esdorp dates back to the early Middle Ages and is surrounded by three different forests. So nature lovers can have a great time here. Grand Café Hotel Karsten is located along several hiking and biking trails through the beautiful surroundings. Our restaurant in Norg is therefore an excellent base from which to explore the beautiful area.

More than worthwhile is a visit to nature reserve the Fochteloërveen. From watchtower The Seven here you can look for miles over the beautiful bog area. The Noordscheveld is also not far from here. You can spot burial mounds and other traces of prehistoric inhabitants. With children, the Struin & Duin experience trail through the Langeloërduinen is highly recommended. During a walk of about 1.5 kilometers, you will pass all kinds of attractions and special features. Fun and educational.

There is plenty to do in Norg in other areas as well. The Norgermarkt, Streetrace Norg, the Worteldagen and Folly Art Norg are true crowd pullers. Just like the Four Day Festival and the Battle of Norg. It doesn’t matter whether you’re in Norg in spring, summer, fall or winter. There is always a fun event coming up. And, of course, in nature you can fully enjoy the respective season.

How to get to Norg?

As mentioned, Norg is located at the top of the province of Drenthe, practically in the middle of the Groningen-Assen-Drachten triangle. So this makes the village easily accessible from these three provinces. Are you coming from Groningen? Then follow the A28 southbound and take exit 37-Eelde. You then drive to Norg via De Punt and Donderen. From Assen, follow the N373 and you will be at your destination in less than 20 minutes. Travelers from Drachten follow the N381 or the N917 to get to Norg. No matter which direction you come from, you can already enjoy plenty of rural scenery and beautiful nature along the way.

Once you arrive, you can easily park your car for free. Several parking lots are within walking distance of our restaurant, including across the street.

Delicious dining out, including overnight stay

We mentioned it before: to come and eat with us, you don’t have to be a hotel guest. But, of course, it may. Our cozy four-star hotel features several beautiful rooms and suites. Luxury and accessibility go hand in hand here. What that looks like? As a hotel with neat rooms and room service, where at the same time there is an informal and cozy atmosphere.

A full buffet breakfast is always included with your stay. Like personal attention to you as a guest and the use of our (free) parking lot with four charging stations. We also offer several packages where you can enjoy all kinds of extras. Thanks to its wooded surroundings, our hotel is an excellent base for all kinds of excursions in nature. And your faithful four-legged friend? It can just come along, as one dog is allowed per room.
